It is important to emphasise that this is not the ultimate list of the most important Estonian women in the world. There are many others who work hard every day to make life better for everyone. While having been well known in Estonia for years for her eclectic alternative style, she has persistently kept making a name for herself globally. It was during her time in London that she started to attract global niche following for her experimental electronica. In addition to favourable reviews, Maria Minerva has been scoring gigs at important underground events and venues. Maria recently moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles where she is a regular fixture in the alternative music scene. The underground star actually names getting into the bustling Los Angeles song writing business as her next big ambition. Around the same time, she also took part in a Baltic song contest, organised by Universal Music, and her win paved way to global path. However, a couple of years of struggle followed, which included squatting in Stockholm for three months.

It became the preeminent Greek polis in the Hellenized region of southern Gaul. Marseille continued to prosper as a Roman city, becoming an early center of Christianity during the Western Roman Empire. The city maintained its position as a premier maritime trading hub even after its capture by the Visigoths in the 5th century AD, although the city went into decline following the sack of AD by the forces of Charles Martel.
It became part of the County of Provence during the 10th century, although its renewed prosperity was curtailed by the Black Death of the 14th century and sack of the city by the Crown of Aragon in During the 16th century the city hosted a naval fleet with the combined forces of the Franco-Ottoman alliance , which threatened the ports and navies of Genoa and the Holy Roman Empire.

But opponents claim that individual workers — such as teachers, hospital chaplains or other officials — could be dismissed legally from their jobs if they take what they consider to be a stand on grounds of conscience over the issue. In a formal legal opinion commissioned by the Coalition for Marriage campaign group, the human rights barrister Aidan O’Neill QC concluded schools could be within their rights to dismiss staff who wilfully fail to use stories or textbooks promoting same-sex weddings.
He added that parents who object to it being taught would also have no right to withdraw their children from lessons. Last night a spokesman for the Department for Education added: But a senior source said that, despite the reassurances, the final decision on such questions might ultimately be taken by the court in Strasbourg. Miss Ladele challenged her treatment by Islington Council at an employment tribunal in Britain and won arguing that she was objecting on grounds of conscience.

The presence of the hearth temple suggests that, long ago, the place of the altar was not in front of the temple as in the well-known practice of the thysia, but rather within it. Indeed, these fireplaces, which are always discovered in a central position within these buildings, are far from being limited to domestic use, such as cooking. Instead, these structures, associated with other elements, such as particular ceramic forms, votives, or tools, offer us the possibility to understand a truly ancient ritual use of the kitchen — that of sacrifice, most probably practiced by the local ruler himself.
Mrs Ronzulli, an MEP from Italy, took her tiny daughter Vittoria to a vote at Strasbourg. She kept her baby carefully cradled against her in a sling and occasionally leant to kiss her on the forehead.

Instead, aggressive White androphobes of all genders which I can no longer count are decimating the philogynous and egalitarian West. Equality psychos are tearing down the most egalitarian society that ever existed except for initial communist experiments, before they turned bloody. American Jews, at the apex of the greatest fortune and philosemitic tolerance their long diaspora has ever bestowed on their kind, are busy supporting all the ideologies and policies that demolish their safe harbor and build up their Muslim, Black and Third World enemies.

Now we have Mikael Colville-Andersen opining his version of the Copenhagen success story in Copenhagenize: Many are familiar to bicycle and pedestrian planners, and range from legal and liability issues to the importance of tracking metrics and closely monitoring travel behavior. As expected, the core of his disposition reveals how Copenhagen, Denmark, where the busiest street carries 40, bike trips per day, sets the bar for cities around the world.
The intuitive model, he argues, should be the standard for all cities, not just world champions like Copenhagen, or Amsterdam, or other of his favorites, such as Strasbourg, France or Antwerp, Belgium. And what are the key network characteristics? Some of these have been cited earlier , but they beg reaffirmation:

Share this article Share As David Cameron knows, I am very suspicious that behind the plans to change the nature of marriage, which come before the House of Lords soon, there lurks an aggressive secularist and relativist approach towards an institution that has glued society together for time immemorial. By dividing marriage into religious and civil the Government threatens the church and state link which they purport to support. But they also threaten to empty marriage of its fundamental religious and civic meaning as an institution orientated towards the upbringing of children.
Lord Carey believes it was a bit rich to hear that the PM has told religious leaders that they should ‘stand up and oppose aggressive secularisation’ when it seems that his government is aiding this aggression If this is not enough, the legislation fails to provide any protection for religious believers in employment who cannot subscribe to the new meaning of marriage. There will be no exemptions for believers who are registrars.
They can expect to be sacked if they cannot, in all conscience, support same-sex marriage. Strong legal opinion also suggests that Christian teachers, who are required to teach about marriage, may face disciplinary action if they cannot express agreement with the new politically-correct orthodoxy.

According to the International Union of Railways, the high speed train “plays a key role in a stage of sustainable development and combating climate change”. As a regular long-distance train traveller in Europe, I have to say that the opposite is true. High speed rail is destroying the most valuable alternative to the airplane; the “low speed” rail network that has been in service for decades. The introduction of a high speed train connection invariably accompanies the elimination of a slightly slower, but much more affordable, alternative route, forcing passengers to use the new and more expensive product, or abandon the train altogether.
As a result, business people switch from full-service planes to high speed trains, while the majority of Europeans are pushed into cars, coaches and low-cost airplanes. A look at European railway history shows that the choice for the elite high speed train is far from necessary. Earlier efforts to organize speedy international rail services in Europe accompanied affordable prices and different ways to increase the speed and comfort of a rail trip.
Quite a few of these services were even faster than today’s high speed trains. Almost as fast as the high speed train, but two to three times cheaper. Five years ago I promised my readers I would not fly anymore. Hopping on a plane would be a hypocritical thing to do when you run a publication called Low-tech Magazine. Since then, I have been travelling across Europe almost exlusively by train apart from the occasional boat trip , good for some 70, km of long-distance travel.
Europe has the most amazing railway network in the world. It gets you anywhere, anytime, and it’s much more fun and interesting to travel by train than by air.

European rights court to rule on Russian opposition leader 15th November , 0 comments Top Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny heads Thursday to the European Court of Human Rights which will rule on whether his repeated arrests were politically motivated. The court in Strasbourg must decide whether Navalny, an anti-corruption campaigner and President Vladimir Putin’s most vocal critic, was arbitrarily arrested and detained by Russian authorities.
Between and he was arrested seven times at public gatherings and prosecuted for either breaching procedures for holding public events or disobeying a police order. Navalny was convicted on each occasion. He was fined five times and twice sentenced to administrative detention. He was released from his latest jail term last month. In February , the international court first condemned Russia for violating his rights to “liberty”, “freedom of assembly”, and “fair trial”, but rejected the accusation of “political motivations”.
Both Navalny and Russian authorities appealed that decision.

This makes a lot of wines to taste and you better plan ahead with the fair’s website to make a choice. The problem is that their website [here the page for the next one in march which is a bit smaller] is not very user-friendly, you have to click repeatedly without ever having for example all the domaines of a given region on a single page, so I usually prefer to go there without planning. It seems to me that in the past they displayed a large board at the entry with the names of participants and the stands location in the fair, I saw none of this this time, but walking and picking randomly the wineries you’ll taste is interesting as well, especially that there is no region order, they’re all mixed up with a Champagne producer standing next top a Languedoc for example.
It had been a while that I hadn’t visited this fair in spite of receiving lots of invitations, sometimes because I’m out of town, sometimes because of the crushing crowds see pic on right , but I decided to visit again this december, first because there are a few natural-wine producers who participate, and because interesting vignerons pop up also year after year, who use the fair as a direct access to the Paris-region public.
It had been a few years since last time I visited, although I receive many invitations from my past visits I used to give them around, they’re not nominative. The good thing is, when you buy wine even once here, the domaines take note of your name and address and you receive every year from them an invitation for 2 people.
